Today, 11th December 2019 was a special day in Killoughteen NS. Our school was awarded recognition as a 5Star GAA Centre. David O’Dea, Games Development Administrator for Limerick presented the award to the School’s Active Committee. The award was given to the school due to the school implementing a programme of Gaelic Games activity that is age appropriate and meets the developmental needs of the pupils within the school.

To help the school achieve this award special thanks must be given to Noel O’ Connor who comes to our school annually on a voluntary basis. Noel takes all children from September to June and teaches them the basics of football, hurling/camogie and he trains our school team in the senior classes in basketball.

We must also give special thanks to Sean Gleeson and Tony O’ Connor who train our school football teams and hurling/camogie teams.

Today was a special day for sport in our school also as we received three sets of jerseys for our pupils. At the beginning of the year we looked for sponsorship for a set of jerseys from our parent body. We received phenomenal support and had loads of offers. We offer our sincere thanks to you all.

Thank you to Gerard and Sinead Sexton of Temple Tyres, Sharon and Eddie Walsh of West End Service Station, and to Neil and Kelly McGowan of Munster Trade Sales who sponsored three sets of jerseys to the school, one basketball set and two GAA sets.
