On 14th February Killoughteen National School held a non uniform day in aid of two of our past pupils, Sinéad and Sarah Woulfe, who are currently in 4th year studying medicine in UCC. They are volunteering for the U.C.C. Surgeon Noonan Society, which is run entirely voluntarily by 4th year medical students. This society is named in honor of the U.C.C. graduate, Tim Noonan, who worked for many years in Nigerian hospitals, which he continued to support for the remainder of his life. This tradition is carried on by fourth year medical students. In June 2023 Sinéad and Sarah along with approximately 40 other medical students will travel to hospitals in Africa, bringing much needed medical supplies and financial aid. Students cover all travel costs themselves to ensure that all of the money raised goes directly to the people in these disadvantaged hospitals. Sinéad and Sarah also came to speak to our students about the Surgeon Noonan Society and about the medicine course itself.
The school raised €765 for the girls and it was presented to them on 1st March.
We wish the girls all the best for their trip in June.
