On October 10th, 5th and 6th class were invited into the Library in Newcastle West for workshops in coding. The children were provided with a laptop each and got an hour and a half where they worked on coding. (SCRATCH 3.0) The children used some code to create a computer game.
First the children picked a sprite (character) then a background and then added code to create a game. Then the children got to play the computer game that they each created. After playing the game the children hacked the code to change the rules of the game to make the game easier to score more points.
Mobile IT, provided the 2 workshops, and they were excellent. Thank you very much for your help. All children really enjoyed it.
Many thanks to Helena, Mary and all staff in the Library for their generosity. The children all got food and drink after completing the activities.
If children wish, they with parental permission can download SCRATCH 3.0 for free and work on coding at home.
Please see some pictures of the children working on the coding below.
