Our Trip To The Fire-Station
On Monday 14th of November First Class went to the Fire-Station in Newcastle West with Miss Ryan and Miss Liston.
First we walked around the fire station. We saw the fire trucks and where the firemen get dressed. We learnt about the helmets. The chief wears a white helmet with stripes. The driver wears a yellow helmet with stripes. The driver is in charge of the hoses and the water too. All the other firemen have yellow helmets. Darren the fireman also told us we need to ring 999 or 112 to call the fire brigade.
Next we got to go into the fire engine. We saw the gas masks and we tried on the helmets. Darragh drove us in the engine to the back of the station. He put on the siren. It was fun.
At the back of the fire-station we got to spray the hose. The hose was connected to the fire hydrant. The water went very high. We loved spraying the water.
Then it was time to go back to school. We got a wristband and a ruler from the firemen. We had a brilliant day. Thank you to Darragh, Eoin, Norma and Seán for showing us around the fire-station.
