We in Killoughteen NS are delighted with the progress that has been made with our building project over the summer months.
Our preschool, Killoughteen Kids has been moved to a new site adjacent to new drop off and collection area. The preschool has had a lot of works completed on it. There is a new roof, new floors and all rewired and replumbed in the new. We hope that all the children who use this facility have a very happy time in preschool.
Our new drop off and collection area is now completed along with our pedestrian crossing. It has worked out very well. There is very little traffic flow problems and it is much safer for the entire school community.
There are two new mainstream classrooms completed along with a new Special Education Teacher (SET) room. One classroom is being used by one of our Junior Infant classes and the other is currently being used by our Junior ASD pupils. Next to one of the classrooms we created a new sensory area for our pupils. It is a lovely sheltered area which we covered in astro-turf.
The whole old school building has been rewired fully and all the toilets have been updated.
The foundations of our GP Hall and ASD unit have been poured and block work for same is currently underway. The project is due to be completed on time by the end of May 2023.
Last year we began fundraising as we desired having first-rate playground facilities for our pupils to coincide with the state-of-the-art buildings that we have and that are still under construction. Therefore, we took the decision to install astro-turf at the rear of the school prior to the children returning to school this year. This is where all fundraising money is going and every little really does help. This was a huge undertaking but it has turned our extremely well. The children are really enjoying playing on this all-weather surface. It is very safe and will ensure that many cuts and grazes from falling on concrete yards are avoided.
This week we have begun the ‘Split the Pot’ fundraising element of our fundraiser again. Children have been given ‘Split the Pot’ envelopes to take home. The draw is €2 per entry. If any student would like extra envelopes for family members, neighbours etc. to play, they can get them from the school. Winners will be announced on our school Facebook page every Thursday/Friday. Thank you all for your continued support.
Finally, ‘Buy a Brick’ is available on our school website for the general public. Please visit our school website www.killoughteenns.com and click on the donate tab. Full details are available here. Alternatively, please contact the school for a flyer if you are unable to do it online. We will be very happy to help you. Click on the link below to see the flyer –
When the build is completed, bricks purchased will be placed on the front of our new GP Hall.
Our goal is to reach €50,000 and we are delighted to report that we have currently reached €8,000 since we launched our fundraiser last May in the Longcourt House Hotel.
Please see the pictures below showing all the works completed to date. We look forward to welcoming you all to the school when the works are completed to show off these fantastic amenities being put in place for our pupils.
