In Juniors we did a Magic trick with some very simple materials. We got a glass jar and made sure it was dry and clean. We put in some dry tissue paper and pushed it in tight so that it would not fall out if the jar was turned upside down. Then we filled a large basin with water. I asked my class if I push the jar under the water what would happen to the tissue paper. It will be very wet and soggy was the answer.

We pushed it under the water and then took it out. To their amazement it was total dry. We learnt that there is air everywhere. The air in the top of the jar created a seal between the tissue and the water so that it couldn’t get wet!! Very cool. See pictures below.
