On Monday morning, October 17th our girls football team were all excited as they prepared to head off to Mick Neville Park for the division 1, 9-A-Side Ladies Football Blitz. The girls had trained at school with Mr Carmody and Mr Keoghan since the beginning of the school year.

The girls and Mr. Keoghan were wished the best of luck as they head off. There were 9 teams in the competition. Scoil Iosaf, Ballingarry, Gaelscoil, Raheenagh, Broadford, Ahalin, Monagea, Mahoonagh and Killoughteen.

Our girls got off to a great start and won their first game against Broadford NS. The next game was against Mahoonagh and this was a very close contest. Fortunately our girls won again. We awaited the results of other games and were thrilled when we got to the West final. Our opponents were Gaelscoil.

This was a very close contest and we just pulled it off when Anna Colbert scored a winning goal in the final minute of injury time. The winning margin was just 1 point. There was great excitement and celebration as our captain Aoibhinn Dore received the shield on behalf of the team.

The team will now head off once more to Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale on November 17th to play in the county semil-final against the East champions. This game will be at 12pm. Should we be fortunate to win this we will play the county final on the same day against either the City or the South at 1:15pm.

We are looking forward to November 17th!
